The 17th annual endurance competition hosted by the Hebe Haven Yacht Club in Sai Kung will also include activities and events for the family (Oct 5-6)
The Hebe Haven Yacht Club (HHYC) will host the 17th edition of the 24-hour Charity Dinghy Race on the weekend of October 5-6 in Sai Kung, Hong Kong. It is boasted as one of just four 24-hour race events worldwide and the only and longest running 24-hour endurance dinghy race in Hong Kong and Southeast Asia.
Over 5,000 people are expected to take part, as visitors, participants, volunteers and supporting sponsors. Since its inception in 2002, the event has raised over HK$10 million for its chosen charities. The weekend will also feature a carnival village for visitors, with plenty of activities, events and stalls to entertain the whole family.
Free trials of water sports and activities
HHYC’s 24-Hour Charity Dinghy Race is more than a race: it is a social occasion encouraging attendees and their families to explore new and different things. Anyone wishing to experience water sports first-hand — adults, couples, families, or children — will be welcomed by HHYC instructors to enjoy a free trial of watersports including sailing, kayaking, stand up paddle boarding and dragon boating for the general public on both days.
Race Village: A waterfront market carnival in Sai Kung
In addition to the action on water, the 24HR ‘Race Village’ will feature a dedicated Kids Zone, together with an array of diverse merchandise stalls, children’s entertainment, art jamming, live bands, face painting, treasure hunt and more throughout the weekend. Guests can drop by each of the participating charity organisations and gather stamps for a chance to win valuable prizes.
Aerial Dance
One of the other highlights will be a live aerial hoop performance presented by Pole Beat Gallery, which will feature a series of “superb poses” of yoga in the air.
Star Wars Stormtroopers
A special appearance by 501st Hong Kong Garrison, a local charity organisation of Star Wars costume enthusiasts also known as “Vader’s First”, will be spreading the magic of George Lucas’ sci-fi franchise in full Stormtrooper costumes on the afternoon of Sunday, October 6.
