The 207m vessel combines extensive glazing, residential-style accommodation and direct connections to the sea.

TDoS (Tillberg Design of Sweden), part of Viken Group, has outlined its involvement in the design of Four Seasons Yachts’ first vessel, the 207m, 34,000GT Four Seasons I.

The yacht entered service in the Mediterranean in March and was developed in collaboration with Four Seasons and Italian shipbuilder Fincantieri. TDoS was responsible for the project’s overall Design & Brand Manifesto, contributing to the vessel’s exterior identity, master planning, suite layouts and guest experience strategy.

The company also designed most onboard guest areas, including suites, outdoor spaces and the two-level transverse marina.

The design draws on the proportions and styling of classic yachts while incorporating contemporary naval architecture. According to TDoS, the original design brief was described as ‘Christina O meets James Bond’. The yacht combines symmetrical forms and traditional detailing with large glazed surfaces, extensive terraces and direct visual connections to the sea.

The exterior colour scheme was developed following a visit to the TDoS studio, where vintage Porsche models owned by Viken Group co-founder Fredrik Johansson influenced the selected palette.

A key aspect of the project involved increasing transparency throughout the vessel. Working alongside Fincantieri engineers, TDoS developed a structural approach intended to maximise outward views from guest areas. The result includes floor-to-ceiling windows and extensive glazing across the yacht.

Other notable features include a 20m aft pool with a raisable floor, allowing the space to be adapted for different uses. The two-level transverse marina provides direct access to the water, while concealed lifeboat covers help maintain uninterrupted exterior lines. The yacht also incorporates a canoe stern, curved glazing around the Funnel Suite and 4m telescopic doors in the forward and aft top suites.

The Funnel Suite occupies a prominent position at the forward-facing prow and provides 270-degree ocean views. Curved glazing forms a defining architectural feature of the space.

As co-founder of Viken Group, Fredrik Johansson says: “The funnel suite required close integration between architecture and shipyard engineering. Its curved glazing was probably the most delicate exercise in combining design and engineering. Its exceptional position within the yacht, and the lift access from sea level, also required a complex balance between structure, circulation, privacy, views and guest experience.”

Sea-focused design

The sea serves as a central reference point throughout the vessel’s layout. All guest suites face outward towards the water and are arranged to maximise views through extensive glazing.

TDoS also developed what it describes as a central “Spine Concept” with shipyard engineers. Rather than relying on a conventional perimeter structure, the design uses a central backbone arrangement intended to support large glazed areas and near-360-degree visibility throughout many parts of the yacht.

The transverse marina further extends access to the water, creating a dedicated sea-level area for guests.

Accommodation consists of 95 suites. TDoS describes the interiors as drawing influence from private residential properties, with layouts intended to combine large living spaces with direct views of the sea.

“Materials throughout Four Seasons I were selected to create a sense of timeless residential luxury, while also meeting the technical and durability requirements of life at sea,” explains Johansson. “We aimed to create an atmosphere of utmost sophisticated exclusivity, while offering a long life and being considerate of both people and the environment.”

He continues: “We focused on finishes that express timeless beauty – such as anigre wood panelling with an Astrakhan finish, solid parquet flooring, and carpets – paired with curated art, artefacts, and books within featured vitrine cabinets. In the bathrooms, Brazilian aqua green quartzite is used alongside carefully developed porcelain stoneware replicas, allowing us to reduce the use of natural resources without compromising the visual and tactile experience.”

Each suite is arranged with beds facing the sea. Interior details include straw marquetry features above the beds, display cabinets for books and objects, and a range of interconnected suite configurations.

In the vessel’s larger suites, terraces incorporate private splash pools and sunbeds. Additional design elements include stone coffee tables featuring etched star constellation maps. Loft suites use double-height interior volumes that continue onto exterior terraces.

Operational planning and service areas

The vessel’s layout also incorporates separate circulation routes for guests and crew. According to TDoS, this arrangement is intended to support operational efficiency while maintaining privacy within guest areas.

The design reflects Four Seasons’ Unscripted Care service philosophy, with service spaces and operational flows integrated into the vessel’s overall planning.
