With functionality in its exterior and elegant comfort indoors, Emocean, the first explorer from the Italian shipyard of Rosetti Superyachts, is an ocean-conquering beauty
The classic, angular exterior design of Emocean, the new flagship explorer of Italy’s Rosetti Superyachts (RSY), reflects the yacht’s functionality and reliability – two key priorities for her owners. However, “special attention has also been dedicated to the crew areas and the hold volumes – both essential requirements for long voyages far from ports or marinas,” explains Sergio Cutolo, founder of Hydro Tec, the Italian naval architecture and design firm that worked on Emocean. This is the first explorer yacht ever built by Rosetti.
Emocean debuted at the 2021 Cannes Yachting Festival as the first hull of 2017-launched RSY, a division of conglomerate Rosetti Marino Group, which has been manufacturing commercial ships for more than 90 years. Built for a couple with an established love of boating, who were closely involved in all aspects of the design and construction, this 38-metre custom explorer is designed for spending long periods on board in complete comfort and safety in all sea conditions.

With a beam of 8.9 metres and a gross tonnage of 432GT, Emocean has volumes that are typical of larger yachts, and her 700sqm of deck space is divided almost equally between the interior and exterior. The exterior profile is classically proportioned but quite contemporary in style with angular lines.
At the request of the owners, all windows and openings are as large as possible. Approaching from the covered cockpit on the main deck, which offers generous sofa seating, the saloon has many large windows. Its dining area has glass sliding doors on either side that offer expansive sea views, thanks to cutaway bulwarks – and access to side decks.

On the starboard side of the main deck, a tailor-made 150-bottle wine cellar acts as a divider between the saloon dining and lounging area/cockpit and the well-appointed master stateroom, which is very spacious and opens onto a fixed side balcony, accessible through a sliding glass door.
The owners chose a fixed (rather than fold-down) balcony design to allow it to be immediately used without requiring any assistance from the crew, thus ensuring greater privacy. The master stateroom comprises a private office, separate ‘his and hers’ bathrooms and a walk-in wardrobe.

On the lower deck are a beach club, a large bar unit, dining facilities including a large table for 12 people with chairs and side seats, and a gym area, and four comfortable guest cabins: two doubles and two twins, as well as crew accommodation comprising three cabins, a crew mess, pantry and a rather special pro-specification galley.
The outrageously spacious stainless-steel-surfaced pro-kitchen-style galley would be the envy of many when compared to those used by on-land apartment dwellers. Its deep-ledged windows allow plenty of daylight to flood preparation counters and to hold planters for fresh herbs or other potted greenery.

Between the upper and main decks, there is a dedicated laundry and storage room. For complete independence at sea, the yacht has a colossal 3,000 litres of fridge and freezer space in the galley and also in both the crew pantry and a technical room on the lower deck, which also houses the fuel and water tanks.
Unusually, the main lounge area is located on the upper deck. Emocean‘s tender is stowed on the open aft deck. An adjacent, partially shaded area is dedicated to an al fresco lounge, and there are also indoor cocktail/sitting areas. The captain’s cabin is sensibly located next to the wheelhouse with an impressive-looking integrated-controls bridge overlooking a huge sun pad configuration the open foredeck. The upper deck’s forward sundeck features a Jacuzzi pool with cascading edging.

The fresh contemporary interior styling throughout is by Burdisso Capponi Yachts & Design, a local design firm based in Ravenna, in the Emilia-Romagna region of northern Italy, and uses light and dark smoked oak. A key indoor feature is the main lobby, where a bespoke sculpture by Sicily-born Giacinto Bosco occupies a feature area in the ‘floating’-style stairwell (another one by the same artist is in the master suite’s study).
The owner’s bathroom features surfaces in marble with both raw and brushed finishes, while the guest bathrooms are fitted with Silestone Coral Clay – waterproof composite tiling with a tactile suede-like finish.

Emocean is powered by twin MAN D2868 LE 425 engines (with 588kW of output) with a round-bilge displacement hull, bulbous bulb, electric CMC stabilisers and extended skeg at the aft of the keel – optimised for smooth cruising at between 10 and 11 knots. The owners will enjoy a range of 5,000 nautical miles. Combined with the huge spaces in the fridges and freezers, the owners can enjoy long periods away from home port in total comfort.
Much has gone into making this megayacht as smooth-sailing as possible to match those smooth aesthetics – it’s an impressive debut for Rosetti.
