Leading Gold Coast development expands marina offerings

Sanctuary Cove Completes First Stage Of Multi Million Dollar Marina Upgrade 3

The prestigious Sanctuary Cove development on Australia’s Gold Coast has completed stage one of an extensive marina upgrade. The A$8.31 million expansion by owners Mulpha Australia includes three new piers, with one dedicated solely to superyachts up to 164 feet.

The new piers will increase the marina capacity by 66 additional vessels, bringing the total number of berths to 303.

Inspired by the integrated resorts of the US, developer Mike Gore launched Sanctuary Cove as a self-contained residential resort in 1985. The A$2 billion development has been home to the annual Sanctuary Cove International Boat Show for some three decades.

Marina general manager Steve Sammes says the marina expansion project was driven by demand for berthing services for larger vessels over 60 feet.

“Sanctuary Cove has been recognised as an idyllic boating and lifestyle destination for more than three decades, and we are excited to continue to raise the bar for our visitors to the Marine Village, combining premier shopping and dining options with high-quality marina facilities,” he says.

Sammes adds that Sanctuary Cove has already seen keen interest from owners in Sydney, Melbourne and Canberra. “Some of our berthed yachts make their way to the northern hemisphere and back, and this redevelopment ensures that the Sanctuary Cove Marina will offer facilities that rival some of the best recreational marinas in the world.”

The marina redevelopment allows door-to-marina services with concrete decks that are wide enough to hold a golf buggy. The new offerings also include dedicated berths for Princess Yachts and Horizon Motor Yachts.

Horizon Motor Yachts director Mark Western says the marina redevelopment positions Sanctuary Cove at the forefront of the marine industry.

“[The expansion] means that we can present our vessels in a showroom style, under lighting and the protection of the marina. These added elements make Sanctuary Cove Marina a mecca for vessel sales in Australia,” he says.

Princess Yachts dealer principal Greg Haines adds the new facilities at Sanctuary Cove are a game-changer for the brand.

“This redevelopment puts the Sanctuary Cove Marina in the same realm as a prestige car dealership in terms of service and facilities,” he says. “A key part of our decision to call Sanctuary Cove home was the marina upgrade. It’s a great position for our brand and means that we can showcase new and brokerage boats all in one location, with up to 10 boats at a time. Our customers who berth in the marina can now dock in their private berth and have their golf buggy waiting on the deck so that they can drive straight to their favourite restaurant or retailer”.

New berth holders will enjoy Sanctuary Cove’s new “Platinum Membership” within rental costs, which includes access to the InterContinental Sanctuary Cove Resort’s lagoon pool, membership of the Country Club, complimentary golf games, and a range of other discounts and perks.
