When delivered in 2025, the 72-metre superyacht will be the largest steel and aluminium boat ever built by the shipyard
Italian yard Sanlorenzo has sold its new flagship motor yacht, the 72 Steel, to a European owner.
When delivered in 2025, the 72-metre superyacht will be the largest steel and aluminium boat ever built by the shipyard. The model will have five decks, including a dedicated owner’s deck, and five guest cabins, and will be powered by a diesel-electric hybrid engine.
The news caps a positive year for Sanlorenzo‘s superyacht division, which has recently confirmed the sale of two units in its 62 Steel line. The yard has closed 15 superyacht contracts to date in 2021, delivered six superyachts and launched a further six units.
“The results of 2021 have been so far excellent, in particular for the significant growth in the backlog, which allows us to have an extensive visibility on future growth,” says Ferruccio Rossi, president of Sanlorenzo’s superyacht division. “The pride of having signed the contract for our first 72 Steel, the largest Sanlorenzo ever to be built and which will be in the water in 2025, is the crowning achievement of an unparalleled year.”

Longtime Sanlorenzo collaborators Studio Zuccon International Project are taking on the external design, while the interiors will be furnished to the “owner’s requirements,” according to the yard.
The dedicated owner’s deck above the bridge deck will occupy an entire deck of the yacht, while the main deck will be reserved for guests with lounge areas and five cabins. The will also be an extensive wellness area for all guests.
“We are very proud to work alongside Sanlorenzo for the research and design of the flagship of the superyacht range,” says Bernardo Zuccon of Zuccon International Project. “As far as the exterior design is concerned, we have focused on a clean, timeless language, in which interior and exterior dialogue is intelligent and functional, thanks also to the extensive use of glass surfaces. It is a well-balanced yacht, the result of a long process of study and in-depth analysis, research that through attention to detail has allowed us to achieve a perfect stylistic balance.”
The sale was finalised through Edmiston. “We are very proud to be involved in such a cutting-edge project, which will become the largest Sanlorenzo to date,” says the owner’s representative, Alex Busher, of the international broker house. “After a careful shipyard selection process, Sanlorenzo emerged victorious. The client’s vision of building their dream yacht by incorporating the best available green technology aligns perfectly with Sanlorenzo’s approach. This is a milestone for all parties involved and we look forward to an ongoing successful collaboration with Sanlorenzo.”
In Asia, Sanlorenzo is represented by Simpson Marine. At the recent Cannes Yachting Festival, the yard presented Simpson Marine and Sanlorenzo Asia with the “Best 2021 Service and Sales Performance Worldwide” award.
