Spanish tennis superstar Rafael Nadal and his wife Maria have taken delivery of a new customised 80 Sunreef Power catamaran in Mallorca. The luxurious US$5.6m cat replaces his 76-foot Italian-built Monte Carlo Yacht 76, Beethoven, which sold for US$2.5m.

Launched last month at the Sunreef Yachts shipyard in Gdańsk, Poland, the 80 Sunreef Power yacht ordered by the Nadals is created for extended offshore cruising in full comfort, and features a living area of over 360sqm.

Among the yacht’s noteworthy features are a spacious flybridge with bar, barbeque and relaxation area as well as a waterfall-fed spa pool, hot tub and wet bar. A stern garage offers space for toys such as a jet ski, while the main deck can be set up to accommodate different seating arrangements, with an open-plan kitchen and bar.

The master suite, which is situated on the main deck, offers an en-suite, opening side balcony with sea views and plenty of natural light thanks to an overhead skylight. There are also four luxurious en-suite guest cabins, which can accommodate up to 12 guests, and two crew cabins. The yacht is powered by two 1,200 hp engines.

“This is an unforgettable event for our shipyard to hand over the yacht to such an amazing person and athlete as Rafael Nadal,” says Francis Lapp, president and founder of Sunreef Yachts. “My team in Gdańsk made every effort to create the yacht Rafa and his wife Maria dreamed of. I am convinced that they will have a great time with their friends and family on board.”

Nadal, a 19-time Grand Slam singles title-holder, was born on the Spanish Balearic Islands and has frequently spoken of his connection with the ocean.

“As someone from an island as I am, the sea is part of our lives, and it’s not a secret that I love the sea,” he said in a statement after receiving the vessel. “Every time I am at home in Mallorca, I try to go out and just find time to enjoy my boat.”
