July has been a bumper month in the SAR for boat deliveries, with Dutch-flagged MV Stadiongracht arriving this week to unload a record seven yachts, sized from 45ft to 116ft. Step aboard and enjoy these exclusive shots of the remarkable process
The cargo vessel MV Stadiongracht arrived in Hong Kong this week, loaded with seven yachts, all for delivery to the SAR. The shipment was coordinated by Sevenstar Yacht Transport, the world’s leading provider of yacht shipping services, and includes models from six brands sized 45ft to 116ft.
MV Stadiongracht set out from Southampton in mid-June, stopping in France, Italy and Turkey en route. The shipment includes one each of a Sunseeker 116, Prestige 590, Lagoon 50, Lagoon 46, a Sanlorenzo SX model, an Azimut 66 and a Beneteau Oceanis 46.
“The arrival is the largest number of boats to arrive at one time ever in Hong Kong,” confirms Charles Massey, head of Sevenstar Yacht Transport’s Hong Kong office.
In a recent interview with Asia-Pacific Boating, Massey confirmed that the SAR is now Sevenstar’s top destination for yacht deliveries in Asia. He added that “Hong Kong is, for its size, probably the number one destination for yacht deliveries globally,” with enquiries coming from “all angles”.
Sevenstar had hoped to load four additional yachts onto the ship in the Thai province of Phuket, en route to Hong Kong. However, these boats could not be released in time, due to significant delays on customs export in the region, caused by control measures linked to Covid-19. Massey points out the frustrations felt across the industry, given Thailand’s tourism minister has spoken of his desire to attract high net worth tourism.
This month has seen a peak for deliveries into Hong Kong, with July alone seeing upwards of 12 boats arriving.
