A great day was had on and off the water at the third edition of the sailing event, created exclusively for Beneteau sailing yacht owners in Hong Kong.

A great day was had on and off the water at the recent Beneteau Cup Hong Kong 2023, which took place on 28 October 2023.

A total of 19 Beneteaus took part with their owners, families and friends, supported by generous partners who sponsored this thrilling one-of-a-kind event.

Created exclusively for Beneteau sailing yacht owners in Hong Kong, the Beneteau Cup Hong Kong is a fun sailing event hosted by Aberdeen Boat Club. Organised by Simpson Marine and Beneteau Asia Pacific and hosted by the Aberdeen Boat Club, the day-long regatta combined fun racing with vibrant social events, including a themed gala dinner and an evening awards ceremony.

The event kicked off bright and early at 9am at the picturesque Aberdeen Boat Club on Middle Island, Hong Kong for a day of races alongside fellow Beneteau owners.

After an active day on the water, participants relaxed on the docks of ABC Middle Island, before the highlight of the event, the themed ‘French Riviera Sailors’ gala dinner.

The dinner, hosted at the ABC Middle Island Clubhouse, offered an extensive banquet buffet and free-flow drinks, accompanied by a live band.

The grand finale of the evening was the awards ceremony, where prizes from brands such as Beneteau, Devialet and Fortnum & Mason were presented.

Tak Chung Leung’s vintage Beneteau 47.7, Polar Star III, took line honours in 99 minutes, ahead of Philippe Grelon’s Figaro Beneteau 3 Rosy Sky. Coming in third over the line was Richard Allen, Simpson Marine’s group general manager, aboard a new Beneteau First 36.

Handicap honours went to Alfred Lau and Castor Kong’s Easy Breezy II, a Beneteau First 41 S5, which completed the course in under two hours. It was the second win for Easy Breezy II, which retains its overall title from 2022.

“We are thrilled to announce the successful conclusion of the Beneteau Cup, marking another remarkable event that brought together Beneteau owners and friends from the region,” says Erwan Her, Beneteau APAC sales director. “This third edition took place in a vibrant atmosphere where sailors enjoyed racing and partying all day long.

“We extend our heartfelt gratitude to all participants, sponsors, the Simpson Marine team, and the Aberdeen Boat Club team for their contributions in making this event a great success. We look forward to future editions of the Beneteau Cup, where we will continue to celebrate the joy of sailing and the enduring spirit of the Beneteau community.”

Richard Allen, group general manager at Simpson Marine says: “It was a pleasure to see 19 Beneteaus with their owners and crews taking part in the 2023 Beneteau Cup. We were blessed with perfect sailing conditions, a good easterly breeze and sunshine sailing. The racing was close and competitive as usual and the Beneteau Cup lived up to its reputation as one of the best fun sailing regattas in Hong Kong, with great on the water sailing and a spectacular après sail party with prizes galore.”

He confirms the intention is to grow the event into an international regatta with owners from China, Taiwan and South-East Asia in attendance.

Allen adds: “Thanks to all the teams and sponsors taking part, we all at Simpson Marine and Beneteau love this event and look forward to next year’s edition”
