The recent Hong Kong International Boat Show 2023 has reported a positive response from dealers, exhibitors and visitors.

The organiser, Club Marina Cove, says the four-day event, which returned between November 30 and December 3 after a pandemic-induced hiatus, received the full support of the Hong Kong Boating Industry Association and its members.

About 40 boats of the latest designs and makes from Italy, France, Britain, Poland, Finland, USA, South Africa, China and Hong Kong were on display at the show.

The event was supported by the Hong Kong Boating Industry Association (HKBIA), which hosted a cocktail reception for industry guests.

As a result of the Covid pandemic, which drove many people turning to water sports as a leisure activity, the boating industry has flourished in the past years. However, the recent economic slowdown has not dampened the confidence of the industry — instead providing makers with the time to handle the delivery backlog.

Dealers at the show were of the overriding opinion that the Hong Kong boating industry could weather the slowdown with its unique position as a low-tax haven, convenient geographic location and strong maritime culture.

Winnie Ng, general manager of Club Marina Cove, said the club will continue to support the development of the boating industry. “The territory’s boating culture will complement the government’s initiative to attract high-quality talents, corporations and investments,” she says.

“With the increasing integration with the Greater Bay Area, there will be more opportunities for the industry and sustainable growth can be expected.”

About 2,000 visitors attended this year’s boat show, organisers say. A decision on the next show will be made after the Easter holidays.
