One of Australia's most beloved island retreats, Orpheus Island Lodge has reopened on the Great Barrier Reef.
Fresh from a major renovation at the hands of Australian design firm Dubois, the luxury island haven, a member of Luxury Lodges of Australia, has welcomed sublime new-look North Beachfront rooms, suites and villas, which make up more than half of the intimate resort’s 14 guest rooms.
Dubois, who previously worked on marquee properties Pelorus Private Island and Mt Mulligan Lodge, has taken the now-larger North Beachfront spaces and delivered a contemporary yet tropical feel, pairing natural timber and textured finishes with a muted palette inspired by the Coral Sea and the reef environment.

The rooms, suites and villas also benefit from higher ceilings, updated furnishings and extended timber decking with outdoor lounges, while several rooms can now be interconnected to form standalone private villas that will prove popular with families and crews.
Beyond the accommodation refresh, the lodge’s core offering is unchanged, from private guiding to the Outer Reef for diving and snorkelling, tailored to guest ability and interest, to inspired dining that continues to focus on seasonal Australian produce and local seafood, served in an oceanfront outdoor restaurant with an existing wine cellar.

Located within the protected waters of the Palm Island Archipelago north of Townsville, Orpheus is popular with yachties exploring the remarkable Great Barrier Reef, home to some of Australia’s most important regattas.
