Ferrari will join the international yacht racing scene under the guidance of acclaimed navigator, Giovanni Soldini.

Teaming up with acclaimed Italian ocean racing yachtsman Giovanni Soldini, Ferrari has set its sights on the world of yacht racing, creating a new sailing division.

In addition to competing on tracks all over the world, Ferrari now embarks on this new venture to enhance its technological know how, in line with the company’s continuous will to progress.

This unique project will see the Maranello-based company utilise cutting-edge technologies throughout the entire cycle, from conception and engineering to realisation. The search for maximum performance at sea will generate innovations and concrete solutions for sustainability that, in line with Ferrari’s tradition, will be an important stimulus in the evolution of its sports cars.

Soldini was born in Milan and as an ocean navigator and pioneer in the development of innovative technologies and trim for racing yachts, he has over thirty years of solo and crewed ocean experience. This is also not his first foray with the world of luxury auto marques; at the helm of the Maserati Multi70, the first flying ocean trimaran, he set the Hong Kong-London route record in 2018 (15,083 actual miles in 36 days, 2 hours, 37 minutes and 12 seconds), and the English Channel record in 2021 and has won numerous victories in the RORC Transatlantic Race, RORC Caribbean 600 and Rolex Middle Sea Race.

Formula One teams have long had close ties with yacht racing over the years, with Red Bull designer Adrian Newey once teaming up a with British Olympian Ben Ainslie on an America’s Cup challenge; while Mercedes technical director James Allison also worked with co-team owners INEOS on an America’s Cup project.

Ferrari has also inspired nautical design in the past, including Lazzarini Design Studio’s GranTurismo Mediterranean, an 88-foot yacht concept dressed in the auto brand’s Rosso Cross red and with room for its own Ferrari garage.
