The 24-metre crossover yacht is a follow up to the popular SX88

Sleek styling and power to spare

Riva is one of the world’s few yacht brands for which each new entry to its model line up is a major event. Steeped in the history of luxury motor yachts that defined cool in the 50s and 60s, Riva’s designers are always challenged with each yacht to find ways to keep that cool alive, while ramping up size, technology and performance.

The new 27-metre Riva 88’ Folgore (Folgore means “lightning” in Italian), features the sleek design one expects from Riva, but paired with impressive performance potential in line with its given name.

At 36 knots, Folgore, which means lightning in Italian, lives up to its name

Built in composite with carbon-fibre reinforcements in the superstructure, the Folgore still achieves excellent speeds even with the use of marble, crystal glass and stainless steel.

The standard propulsion solution is a pair of MTU 16V 2000 M96 engines, yielding an impressive top speed of 36 knots and cruise of 30 knots. This first Riva 88’ Folgore to be launched was fitted with MTU 16V 2000 M96L engines, for a top speed of 39 knots and a cruising speed of 33 knots.

High tech solutions on the bridge enable easy handling. Electro-hydraulic steering systems allow for aggressive turning and handling, while an integrated dashboard system combines navigation and manoeuvring instruments. Joystick control makes tight situations easier to handle while a Dynamic Positioning System can handle even high wind situations while maintaining position. The Folgore is equipped with Humphree stabilising fins and Seakeeper gyroscopic stabilisers are an option.

Fully specced, the Folgore is the last word in maritime high tech

But for all the technological solutions available on this new Riva, which ensure a fast, comfortable ride, it is the incredible finishes and flourishes that keep Riva customers and aficionados in thrall.

The windows are designed to resemble the elegant sweep of a brushstroke

The hull windows are supposed to resemble a black brushstroke along the side of the yacht, which rises towards the deck. A steel air intake is embedded in the stern. Mahogany and steel detailing is found through the yacht, combining with carbon fibre elements to achieve the balance between classic and modern looks.

The navigation lights are housed in polished stainless steel, and the walkway handrails are also carbon fiber and steel. The windscreen is made with spherical crystals that create a slight counter-curvature. An optional glass roof in the superstructure opens both to the stern or the bow, letting in fresh air whether cruising or at anchor.

Beach club combines style and sport

At the stern, a rear door swings open to create a six-square metre beach club. The door can be submerged for launching and recovering tenders. The garage houses a Williams SportJet 395 and a jet ski.

Guests wanting spaces to enjoy themselves at anchor or underway will be spoiled for choice. The main cockpit is a giant 22 square metres. But it is the bow that got a lot of attention, offering much more than some sunpads.

The entire bow area can be covered with awnings

The bow on the first Folgore out of the yard has a large dining area with a C-shaped sofa that can be transformed into a sunpad by lowering the mahogany tabletop. The table can open up to reveal a big storage area. The 23-square metre bow area can be covered with awnings.

Up top, the generous 20-square metre flybridge area offers more relaxation space, with sunpads, tables and spaces for drinks service. A helm station is centrally positioned, while the whole area can be covered with awnings.

Ceiling height and sweeping views from the saloon

The interiors continue Riva’s tradition of fine finishes. The open main lounge offers uninterrupted views of the sea and all interior spaces have a ceiling height of nearly two metres.

Wood, leather and steel are the main materials on the main and lower decks. These pairings are set against white and black lacquered sections in the ceiling, all naturally lit by large windows.

Dining area, tinted glass, great views

The port side main lounge features the dining area, with a tinted glass table that seats up to eight guests. A tinted glass partition separates the lounge from helm station. Discrete crew access points ensure separation of crew from guests.

The lower deck features a full-beam owner’s suite in the centre of the yacht; a VIP cabin in the bow with a double bed and two wardrobes; a VIP cabin on the port side with a wardrobe and convertible twin beds; and a double cabin with a wardrobe and twin beds. The owner’s cabin has three possible layouts, with options for larger bathrooms and walk in closets.

In the cabins, the walls are clad with tinted mirrors and widescreen TVs, all paired with wood, leather, fabric and colours that match those on the main deck.

Master cabin

The galley and crew quarters on the Folgore are both on the lower deck for maximum privacy.

In short, the new Riva 88’ Folgore offers buyers another chance to partake in the Riva dream: unlimited finery, but now with splendid performance and handling.
