Canada’s Acel Power Expands Electric Marine Propulsion into Southeast Asia

Acel Power Inc., a Canadian company specialising in electric marine propulsion, has signed a distribution agreement with Singapore-based En-Syst Equipment & Services Pte Ltd. Under this agreement, En-Syst will distribute Acel Power’s products in Singapore and across selected ASEAN markets, including Malaysia, Indonesia, the Philippines, Thailand and Vietnam.

The new agreement signals Acel Power’s formal entry into Southeast Asia’s electric marine propulsion sector, particularly targeting commercial, transport and protected waterway applications in the region. This follows increased interest in zero-emission technologies and the establishment of low-emission maritime zones by governments across ASEAN. Fleet operators, tourism service providers and municipalities are also exploring quieter and cleaner vessel alternatives.

According to a study by the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA), electric propulsion systems could account for up to 50 per cent of small to mid-sized vessels in Southeast Asia by 2035, influenced by falling costs and stricter emissions regulations.

En-Syst will distribute Acel’s Intelligent Electric Series, which includes 50HP, 75HP, 150HP and 250HP electric outboards. These systems feature high-voltage configurations, modular LFP battery packs, digital throttle controls, onboard touchscreen interfaces and smart connectivity. The motors are designed to deliver up to 95.8 per cent powertrain efficiency. The modular battery architecture supports scalability for extended range applications. Software features include real-time diagnostics, remote monitoring and performance optimisation.

The offering also includes inboard propulsion systems and the Acel X-tend range extender, a gas- and diesel-powered generator designed for hybrid use.

En-Syst will manage local inventory, provide installation and technical support, operate demonstration vessels, and coordinate with OEMs and trade events to support adoption.

Acel Power, based in Vancouver, produces electric outboard propulsion systems. It introduced the first mass-produced 50HP and 75HP electric motors and is working toward offering a range of products from 1HP to 650HP. The company develops integrated electric marine systems focused on efficiency, safety and longevity, using proprietary technology and software.

En-Syst provides custom power systems for infrastructure and industry in Asia-Pacific. It has delivered scalable solutions from 15 to 4,000 KVA for over 30 years.
