Boot Düsseldorf opens tomorrow after a years-long hiatus, with world yacht premieres and ocean conservation in discussion

Boot Düsseldorf, the world’s largest yachting showcase, opens its doors for nine days, starting on January 21, 2023, after a two-year hiatus due to Covid restrictions. Though other major events, such as Cannes, Monaco, Fort Lauderdale, restarted in 2021, Boot Düsseldorf, as an indoor event in winter, has struggled with Covid outbreaks and restrictions.

The 2023 show will have over 1,500 exhibitors in 16 exhibition halls (an area equal to 31 football pitches), covering everything from superyachts to Scuba gear. Some of the world’s top yards will be showcasing new yachts and, in some cases, world premieres.

The Azimut S7

The world’s biggest boat builder will have the world premiere of its new S7, the latest addition to its sport yacht line. The S7 promises Azimut’s standard of interior design and exterior sleekness, thanks to the work of regular designer Alberto Mancini, who is rapidly taking over the role of that the late Stefano Righini played in created an Azimut “look”.

The S7 is a 21.7m sleek style machine, with a top rated speed of 35 knots. Open, airy design, huge windows and classic yet chic looks define this yacht. The S7 also adds to Azimut’s continued use of carbon fibre in the build. The entire superstructure of the S7 is constructed in carbon fibre, significantly lessening the overall weight (and therefore power requirements) while also reducing roll motion by up to 15%.

Azimut Yachts will also have two yachts from the Fly range, the Azimut Fly 53 and Fly 78. Also on hand will be the Magellano 66 from Azimut’s explorer series of longer range yachts.

Ocean Conservation and Family Fun

Family fun, on-water activities, underwater activities and ocean conservation are all key themes that you’ll find at Boot, which separates the show from other events in the yachting calendar that just display yachts and expensive toys.

There is a sustainability forum, “Blue Innovation Dock”, a series of forums focused on topics such as sustainability in boatbuilding, alternative propulsion or modern marina design.

There will be places for sailing beginners to get started, as well as tips and tricks on such topics as wingfoiling and wingsurfing, the hottest current water sports trends await their fans.

In its 54 years, Boot Düsseldorf has also been a forum for marine research. Diving pioneer Jacques-Yves Cousteau even choose Boot Düsseldorf as a presentation platform and proclaimed here the protection of the seas as the declared goal of divers.

The “love your ocean” stand in Hall 14 will also delight little explorers. There will be large measuring instruments from marine research, a microplastics lab and an algae lab to explore.

And with the “ocean tribute Award”, whose list of winners also includes Boris Herrmann with his Malizia team, Boot Düsseldorf, together with the Monegasque Prince Albert II Foundation and the German Ocean Foundation, have created an internationally highly regarded and renowned prize. This year the “ocean tribute Award” will again be presented live in front of an audience on 23 January. The laudatory speech for the winner will be held by the well-known actor and ocean activist Hannes Jaenicke.
