Tam Son Yachting becomes authorised dealer for the Italian brand

Azimut Yachts announced that Tam Son Yachting will be its authorised dealer in Vietnam. Tam Son Yachting is part of the Openasia Group, an industrial conglomerate founded in 1994 in Vietnam. Openasia Group counts hotels and tourism as one of its seven core industrial areas.

Tam Son Yachting, based in Ho Chi Minh City, was established in 2017 and already has distribution rights in Vietnam for Beneteau, Lagoon and Zodiac. The company has also branched into marina operations and yacht maintenance and services.

“We are delighted to enter into this partnership with Tam Son Yachting. Their experience in the area will be invaluable in developing a market that we see as extremely promising,” said Filippo Tomasoni, Azimut Yachts sales manager for East Asia, Oceania & Africa.

The appointment of Tam Son Yachting continues Azimut’s expanding distribution network in Southeast Asia, which the company said began a few years ago. Vietnam has enjoyed considerable growth in the past few years, as companies have relocated production from China to Vietnam.

Vietnam has endured relatively little fallout from Covid-19, with GDP growth slowing from over 7% last year to between 2 and 3% in 2020. Thanks to long stretches of pristine beach, Vietnam’s tourism industry has become a pillar of the economy. The infrastructure needed for yachts to berth or visit has been growing in recent years.

In a 2019 Bloomberg interview, Doan Viet Dai Tu, chairman of Openasia Group, expressed confidence in the yachting industry, as the Vietnamese government had given tacit approval for its growth. “We want to bring yachting as entertainment, something that’s affordable not only for very wealthy people but for the upper-middle class as well,” Doan Viet said.
